Sophia, the AI Robot, will be Keynote Speaker At Jalisco Talent Event

The world’s first humanoid robot, nicknamed Sophia, will arrive in Mexico next year to participate in the Jalisco Talent Land event.

At the event, scheduled for 2nd April, 2018, in Guadalajara, Sophia will be one of the keynote speakers, and will address the audience and answer their questions.

Reports by Mexican news outlets say the robot will be the first AI speaker ever to attend the annual event, which is designed to bring together technology talent from around the country to discuss emerging technologies, including robotics technology and virtual reality.

Sophia, developed by Hong Kong-based company Hanson Robotics, has already hit headlines for imitating human gestures and facial expressions. She has of course proved that she is able to answer certain questions and make simple conversation on predefined topics.

Although the robot is currently using borrowed technology, such as Google’s voice recognition technology, analysts say Sophia could get smarter over the months to come.

Last month was the most eventful month for the robot, during which time it was granted Saudi Arabian citizenship and had a brief conversation with the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed.

These were precisely the reasons why the organizers of Talent Land decided to include her into the list of its 40 speakers.

In the five-day event, Sophia will be present on the fourth day. Organizers say as many as 30,000 people may gather to hear the robot speak.
