It’s not hard to remember back to 1995-1997, when the Internet boom began to gather some real traction. Firms like Netscape, Lucent and Cisco were suddenly red hot darlings that became emblematic of a new generation of Wall Street investment targets. There were plenty of skeptics of course who didn’t like the price-per-earnings ratios of these companies or didn’t believe the aggressive forecasts of top executives. And then there were the very real concerns about risks and the seeming intangibility of the Internet, backbone buildouts and why broadband mattered. Back then, Google had yet to be born and the eye-ball grabbing power of search was not really well understood.
So, what does the investment climate of the mid-90s have to do with 2010 investment in Nearshore outsourcing? Plenty and I’ll explain why.
Latin America ICT: Ranking the Top Five Telecom Markets
August 18th, 2010Chile Claims Top Spot Based on Advanced Infrastructure
By Tarun George
Over the next five years, LatAm wireless network traffic is slated to rise at a CAGR of 86% – pretty significant compared to the 61% CAGR average for emerging markets as a whole. And yet Latin America is still a relatively small telecom services market. Despite advances in information and communication technologies (ICT), there are large discrepancies between countries – some with modernized and liberal telecom networks, and others with closed and politicized systems in place. If you’re a prospective sourcing client, those discrepancies can make or break your operation.
To clear the air, we decided to leverage some expert opinion and develop our 2010 Ranking of the Top Five Telecom-Ready Sourcing Destinations in Latin America.
Nearshore Americas will be on site and blogging live from the prestigious Sourcing Interests Group Global Sourcing Summit this week in Savannah.
We look forward to deeper conversations about the growing appeal of Latin America outsourcing as part of a larger global sourcing portfolio strategy. The folks at SIG work hard to create a ‘non-commercial’ atmosphere at the SIG event, which is a polite way of saying that content, networking and education geared to attendees’ real needs are what will dominate the conference.
Sourcing Interests Group members are senior-level executives at Global 1000 companies. Member titles include CEOs, CFOs, CPOs, COOs, CIOs, presidents, vice presidents, directors, and senior analysts and managers. It’s not too late to register for the event.

Message From the Founder
March 19th, 2010Several exciting things are going on at Nearshore Americas and we want to keep you updated!
We get a lot of questions about the business model of Nearshore Americas. What are we here for and how do we help the community of Nearshore providers and buyers come together? Joining our team this week to answer those important questions is good friend and colleague, Dan Rubinetti, who I previously worked closely with at Ziff Davis Media/ Enterprise in New York City. Dan joins us as Vice President of Business Development.
Our brand is deeply dedicated to telling the real story behind the success of Latin America outsourcing. (Yes, we cover Canada and the Caribbean too.) We have two things going for us that you won’t find anywhere else – a high-end, professional ability to create marketing tools …
Nearshore Americas Hits the Road in Early March
February 26th, 2010
Nearshore Americas is on a two week mission in March to travel in-region and meet many new friends, colleagues and partners who are part of this vibrant and fast-growing community of outsourcing professionals.
I will be traveling to Guatemala City later next week to check in with Invest in Guatemala, the Ministry of Economics and about a half dozen key BPO and pro services leaders. I am always fond of returning to Guatemala where, during last Spring’s IAOP chapter meeting, the folks there were very enthusiastic about the early development of Nearshore Americas and our commitment to being a reliable online voice and platform for the Nearshore community.
After Guatemala, I will head to Mexico City to be part of a newly reformed BPO event organized by the Mexico’s call center promotion agency IMT and titled: First Annual Global Contact Center Forum. I will be speaking on one subject near to my heart: Why American Companies Don’t Do Nearshoring and Why. (Follow ups will be posted later in Nearshore Americas.) I will also be moderating a panel discussion on Trends Around Nearshore/ Offshoring/Multishoring. Among the panelists are two gentlemen whose insights are consistently sharp and well-grounded: Anupam Govil, CEO Global Equations and Ruben Sorto, marketing director at Altia Business Park in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

Nearshore Americas to launch in September!
August 12th, 2009
I’m excited to announce the launch of Nearshore Americas in September. The site will the first truly independent news and commentary online resource for the emerging nearshore community. (This is the first public viewing of our new logo by the way – the three sweeping elements are meant to reflect North, Central and South America working as one.)
We are launching the media brand to meet a strong hunger for relevant and deep analysis of how to develop profitable, long-lasting partnerships in Latin America and the Caribbean. We will have much more to tell you in September, including launch of a regular newsletter, contributions from outsourcing experts, buyer case studies, live blogging and much more! Response to our current brand – Caribbean CRM Central – has been overwhelmingly positive. We expect to play a part in helping the Nearshore community establish itself …
