The government of Barbados has named a street after pop superstar Rihanna, honoring her Bajan heritage and early years growing up on the island.
Formerly known as Westbury New Road, the street has been renamed Rihanna Drive, with an unveiling ceremony taking place on Thursday, November 30.
“My whole life was shaped on this very road,” she said at the event. “I was just a little island girl riding bikes, running around barefoot, and flying kites in the cemetery, but I had BIG dreams. Dreams that were born and realized right here.”
The two-hour ceremony included tributes to the Grammy-award winning singer, as well as performances from Westbury Primary School and other Barbadians.
