Jamaica’s Stock Exchange Lists Security Tokens After Successful Trial

The managing director of the Jamaican Stock Exchange (JSE), Marlene Street Forrest has welcomed the listing of security tokens, after completing a successful 60-day live cryptocurrency trading trial, for trading and management of digital assets. The JSE partnered with Canadian tech firm Blockstation. Street Forrest told the Jamaican Observer: “The pilot has been very smooth so far and we are quite happy with the results.”

In the last few years there has been a stock market boom in Jamaica, with stock valuations raising by as much as 300%. The trading of security tokens is still in its early stages, however. Fully legal registration of the asset and screening of the buyers means a secondary market is required. It is hoped the JSE and Blockstation partnership will create the new digital assets trading platform.
